Co-chairs Sonny DiCrecchio and Paul Steinke and the conference committee, Ronnie Best, Michael Janis, Sheree Brannan, Janel Leatherman and Jim Farr truly outdid themselves in the planning and execution of the 62nd Annual NAPMM conference held March 27-31 in beautiful downtown Philadelphia. Special thanks also to our longtime sponsors and partners CHEP and the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market without whose generous support this event would not have been possible.
Besides the Reading Market and the Regional Produce Market, off-sites also included a trip to an Amish Farm and the restaurant/market, a tour of one of the country's largest mushroom farms and the huge Gloucester Terminal where a large percentage of the Chilean produce imported into this country is off loaded.
Speakers included April White, Food Editor for the Philadelphia Magazine, speaking on the latest "Food Trends". David O'Neil from PPS addressed "Trends in Retail Markets" and Kevin Feely of Bellevue Communications gave a great presentation on "Crisis Communications". Other presentations focused on USDA and PACA updates, Wholesale Market project updates, "Financing for Market Renovations" and "100 Years of Freshness, a History of the Pike Place Market".
Everything was well planned, sessions were informative and meals and accommodations first class. Thanks again to everyone, and welcome to all the new members and first-time attendees. Hope to see everyone in Seattle for our 63rd meeting in the Spring of 2009.
